ROSA RUBIGINOSA – ROSE HIP SEED OIL

The special importance of linoleic acid for cell metabolism is well pointed out in the following: Linoleic acid, with its two highly active double bonds, has been given as supplements with excellent results to counteract a variety of deficiencies which cause premature aging. More recently, an even more intriguing oil has become important in skin care: Rosa rubiginosa – also known as Rose Mosqueta or rose hip seed oil.

Rosa rubiginosa is of the highest importance for regenerative skin care. Synergies of this multi-unsaturated fatty oil with essential oils are most effective.

Rosa rubiginosa is a South American species of the Rosaceae family which corresponds to what we know as “wild rose”. The seeds of its ripened fruits contain a fatty oil which is extremely valuable because of its high content of essential fatty acids and in particular, gamma linoleic acid.

Rosa rubiginosa is of the highest importance for regenerative skin care because of the role of the essential fatty acids in the formation and reformation of membranes (as a constituent of the membrane phospholipids) which may be damaged. For much the same reason it supports liver and pancreatic tissue regeneration.

Rosa rubiginosa has a regulating and balancing influence on various important physiological functions: it regulates cholesterol levels, blood pressure, the sympathetic nervous system as well as the menses. It supports the start of improvement programs dealing with exogenic stress such as alcohol or nicotine dependency and enodogenic stress such as diabetes or liver insufficiency.

Consequently, the indications for this oil are numerous. It is most appropriate for extremely dry, scaled and fissured skin. It is also beneficial for dull skin, acne (dry), eczema (dry), hyper-pigmented skin and scars. It is prophylactic and curative after surgery, skin trauma, caustic burns, acute intestinal or dermic ulcers and ulcerated veins.

Rosa rubiginosa is also appropriate for calming an inflamed liver (from excessive eating), intestinal insufficiencies, duodenal ulcers and intestinal troubles. As far as the circulatory system is concerned, it supports measures against high blood pressure and helps prevent arteriosclerosis and thrombosis.

In the neuro-endocrine complex it is well-suited to reduce hyperactivity in adults but especially in children and has the potential to support growth.
